ISRAEL IS HEADING TOWARD SOMETHING WORSE THAN ANYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE 1948: A CIVIL WAR!

By Maximillien de Lafayette, WJNA Editor-in-Chief. Coming soon!

THE ARABS, PALESTINIANS AND MUSLIMS ARE DETERMINED TO ANNIHILATE ISRAEL AND THE JEWS WHEREVER THEY ARE! THE MORE LANDS WE GIVE THEM, THE MORE TERRORISM BASES WE HELP THEM CREATE!

What President  Katzav Could Have Said. By Dr. Aaron Lerner, IMRA Director and World Jewish News Agency International Commentator. When Israel's President Katzav addressed the nation this week I was hoping he would use his mostly ceremonial role to help advance national unity.  But Katzav instead opted to pay lip service to the Jewish communities slated for expulsion next week while declining to address the very serous problems associated with how the disengagement plan was approved - this as he failed to call for restraint on the part of security forces implementing the plan [despite incidents of police violence this week]. Here is how Avraham Burg, a former speaker of the Knesset from the Leftist Labor Party put it in an Op-Ed in Haaretz on 5 August: "The process by which the plan was approved smashed to smithereens what little remained of Israel's political culture and doomed us to many more years of disabled, crippled democracy, conducted in the shadow of the anarchy of this period...Read in Internet format.

PM SHARON/ISRAELI CABINET COMMUNIQUE: "In accordance with the Disengagement Plan Implementation Law, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and I will sign an order determining 15 August 2005 as the evacuation day." We are approximately one week before evacuation day and it is now time to consider the circumstances in order to decide if they are of sufficient weight to affect the evacuation. I know that the security forces - the IDF and the Israel Police - are thoroughly prepared for the evacuation regarding both the possibility of an upsurge in Palestinian terrorism and the evacuation itself.  The Disengagement Authority and the various Government ministries have made thorough preparations regarding the civilian aspects of the evacuation; there is a solution for every resident. The civilian and security establishments are ready for the evacuation and this will be part of our decision today...Read the full article in Internet format

Police Beat Katif Spokeswoman. On Tuesday, August 9th, at 5:30 PM, Katif Council Spokeswoman Debbi Rosen was returning to her home in Neve Dekalim from prayers at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, when she was stopped at the Kissufim junction. Debbi was asked for her  Israel identification card, which she showed the police at the junction. Debbi was then asked by the police to show them the ID of her young daughter who was travelling with her. Debbi laughed and said that she is too young to have an ID card. The police then dragged Debbi from her car, pushed her to the ground and beat her in all parts of her body. This report is from an eyewitness account. Debbi is hospitalized in the Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva and will not be  available for the press at this time. By David Bedein,  World Jewish News Agency Columnist and Bureau Chief, Israel Resource News Agency, Beit Agron International Press Center Jerusalem, Israel.

FOLLOW UP/ LATEST DEVELOPMENT BY DR. AARON LERNER: Police beat Katif Spokeswoman Debbi Rosen.

IMRA and Dr. Aaron Lerner  reached Debbi Rosen, who provides public relations service to Gush Katif, this morning. Yesterday she was talking on her cellular phone with a spokesman in the Israeli Consulate in New York as she was driving and reached Kissufim Junction.  She showed her ID card and the IDF Lt. General who was there claimed that she was deliberately talking on her phone.  She told him who she was talking with and offered to give him the phone to hear for himself. He then asked for the ID card of her 17 year old daughter who was with her in the car.  Her daughter did not have her card with her but Debbi showed the attachment to her ID car showing the details of her daughter. The Lt. General told her that her daughter had to come with her own ID card. Debbi turned around but then came back and asked the Lt. General for his name. He refused and Debbi said she would not move her car until he identified himself. The police with him said that they would bring a tow truck and tow her away if she didn't move. She pulled her car over to the side and took out her new Nikon D70 camera and started photographing the Lt. General and the police told her to stop photographing and said that they would get the Lt. General's name for her and she said that she wanted to get the details directly from him - as she had given him her details. The police threw her camera to the ground and started pushing her. When she put up her hand a policeman announced that she was "attacking a policeman" and threw her to the ground, put a knee on her and twisted her arm. As a result of her wounds, Debbi was evacuated, at her request, by ambulance to Soroka Hospital.  She was released that evening. The doctor's release report details, among other things: bruises and abrasions on the shoulders, swelling and limited mobility of one wrist and marks that indicate violence on the other hand. Debbi is filing charges against the two policemen involved in the attack  (she has their names) with the police and also intends to sue them in civil court. It is not clear if the Police will cover the judgment against the police for their actions. According to Page 35 of the brochure prepared by the Israel Police for police participating in the disengagement: "If you acted within the framework of fulfilling your job and in accordance with the instructions and guidelines, you qualify for legal assistance also against civil suits.  You will be defended by the Advocacy or the Police. In principle, the Police will give you help, including the payment of compensation, also if it is found that there was negligence, so long as this is not an instance of behavior that constitutes a radical deviation from the carrying out of your role. It should be emphasized that each instance will be examined on its own."

Palestinian Factions See the Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza is an Outcome of the  Intifada. GAZA, (IPC+Agencies), [Official PA website]. The national and Islamic factions stressed that Sharon's unilateral plan is the product of the Palestinian uprising (Intifada), resistance and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people. The Palestinian factions deemed his misleading plan, which he is vaunting,  as a means to reinstate the occupation, prop up the settlement activities and the apartheid wall in the West Bank and judiazing Jerusalem...Read the full article.   In Internet format.

Abbas: Israeli Withdrawal Should not Be Linked to any other Issue.  GAZA, (WAFA-PLO news agency)- President Mahmoud Abbas stressed on Tuesday that the Israeli withdrawal should not be linked to any other issue. In a speech before Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in Gaza, the President pointed out that US President George Bush had affirmed, in last June, on the linkage of the fate of the West Bank with that of Gaza Strip, and the Israeli withdrawal is going to be to September 28 positions as a transitional stage, refusing in the same time any changes of 1949 borders, not to say 1967 borders, unless there is an agreement between the two sides...Read the full article.    In Internet format.

PNA: Israel Will Remain 'the Occupying Power' after Withdrawal 09/09/200

Photo: Shaul Mofaz: " Israel is not prepared to trust the Palestinians to handle security and commerce by themselves.. no possibility of foreign inspectors replacing Israeli guards."

Palestine Media Center - PMC [Official PA website]. Vindicating Palestinian fears of transforming the Gaza Strip into the world's largest prison, Israel on Monday ruled out giving the Palestinians their own gate to the world, insisting at the last minute Monday it will control traffic in and out of Gaza after Israeli settlers and soldiers leave, as the PNA confirmed that Israel's unilateral withdrawal "will not change the legal status" of the "evacuated" areas and the Jewish state "will remain an occupying power."

Photo: Wolfensohn supports EU willingness to deploy foreign inspectors.

Just a week before the pullout begins, Israel's Security Cabinet met Monday to consider how to deal with the crossing point at Rafah between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. Rather than endorse a plan for international inspectors to handle customs and security, the Israelis insisted on moving the crossing to the point where Gaza, Egypt and Israel meet - and on retaining Israeli control. Israel also threatened to cancel the customs union with the Gaza Strip if the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Egypt refuse to build a new border terminal near "Kerem Shalom" to replace the existing one in Rafah, the security cabinet decided Monday, Haaretz reported on Tuesday...Read the full article.   In Internet format.

Pollard challenges Arutz7's assertion that "Landau's Record Shows Consistent Action for Pollard"

Photo: Jonathan Pollard.

Justice4JP CLAIMS: Arutz7: Landau's Record Shows Consistent Action for Pollard Pollard: What are they smoking at Arutz7? Justice4JP issued the following press release: For the second time in less than a week, Arutz7's failure to check its facts has resulted in its publishing major bloopers on the Pollard case. In a 9 August 2005 article announcing the candidacy of MK Uzi Landau to head the Likud Party (copy follows below) Arutz7 pointed out the 2 areas in which it claims Dr. Landau has "demonstrated consistency":
     1) voting consistently against the expulsion from Gush Katif
     2) taking consistent action on behalf of Jonathan Pollard.

Jonathan Pollard responded to this "news" by asking if anyone knows what they are smoking at Arutz7. Laughing, Pollard told Justice4JP: "If 'consistent action' on my behalf is the best recommendation that Arutz7 can find for Uzi Landau, the man is in serious trouble!" Asked if there is any truth to the statement that Landau has been "consistent" on the Pollard Case,  Jonathan Pollard quipped, "Sure! Landau has consistently done nothing for the last 2 decades!" Justice4JP notes that for 20 years Dr. Landau has consistently ducked all of Jonathan's representatives' appeals for help. He has consistently avoided taking any action or any position that might be helpful. The few public pronouncements Landau has made on the case have been self-serving and never followed up with any action whatsoever. In short, neither Pollard, nor his team has had any assistance from Landau for the last 2 decades. The factually flawed Arutz7 report follows below. Once again, Justice4JP invites Arutz7 to correct the record by publishing this release.

MK UZI LANDAU TO ANNOUNCE CANDIDACY TO HEAD LIKUD. (IsraelNN.com).

Photo:  Uzi Landau  will announce his candidacy to head the Likud party.

MK Uzi Landau has called a press conference for this morning in Tel Aviv in which he will announce his candidacy to head the Likud party. Landau clarified yesterday that former Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's resignation from the Cabinet has no effect on his decision to compete for the position. Dr. Landau, called "head of the rebels" against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon out of loyalty to the Likud's founding principles, has consistently voted
against the expulsion from Gush Katif and the Northern Shomron. Landau's record also shows consistent action on behalf of Jonathan Pollard, serving a life sentence in the United States for passing classified information to Israel. -30-

Settlement of Nissanit becomes a virtual ghost town ahead of Gaza withdrawal

NISSANIT, Gaza Strip- One of Israel's largest Gaza Strip settlements was a virtual ghost town Thursday. With less than a week before the Israeli pullout begins, most residents have cleared out of Nissanit, leaving rows of abandoned homes and lawns littered with discarded furniture and garbage. Israeli officials urged the thousands of settlers who remain to follow suit and leave their homes before soldiers come to remove them.

Lebanese resistance Announces Continuity of Struggle. (SANA-Syrian News Agency). Lebanese national resistance stressed in a statement that the resistance will continue until realizing total liberation of the Lebanese occupied lands. "No honest Lebanese wants to talk about an amnesty for the Zionists' agents," the statement said, pointing out that "those who talked about such amnesty have committed the high treason". On the other hand, Speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabeeh Berri discussed with Secretary General of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council Nasri Khouri ways of enhancing the Syrian-Lebanese relations. Both sides reviewed during a joint meeting what had the higher council done regarding joint agreements signed between the two countries.

Anti-disengagement protestersThousands rally against Gaza plan.

Tens of thousands of Israelis are staging a rally in Tel Aviv in protest at plans to pull out of Gaza, six days before the withdrawal is due to begin. Demonstrators clad in the symbolic orange colour of the protest movement filled Rabin Square, where successive speakers denounced the evacuation. Opponents of the plan have stepped up their protests in recent days, vowing to sabotage the withdrawal operation.

Protest and prayer vigil at Jerusalem's Western Wall over Israel's planned withdrawal from GazaJewish settlers are due to be removed from Gaza and part of the West Bank. Sea of orange: Protesters waving flags and banners streamed into the square in what is likely to be the last such mass show of resolve against the plan before the withdrawal gets under way. The square was transformed into a sea of orange, as demonstrators waved coloured balloons, flags and banners. Giant posters proclaimed "Gush Katif, I swear fidelity" and "Samaria, I swear fidelity" - references to a doomed settlement bloc and the biblical Hebrew name for the northern West Bank. The plaza is the place where former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was shot dead in 1995 by a right-wing Jewish gunman opposed to the peace accords with the Palestinians. The demonstration comes a day after tens of thousands of Orthodox Jews held a mass prayer gathering at the Western Wall in Jerusalem - Judaism's holiest site - against the impending pull-out. The withdrawal of settlers from the Gaza Strip is due to get under way on Wednesday, with a further withdrawal from four settlements in the West Bank soon afterwards.

Ezra tells Yesha it must accept law after call to reach Kissufim crossing. Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra told the Yesha Council of settlers on Thursday, that it is not the sovereign power in Israel, and added that while he values the Yesha leaders, they must know their place. The public security minister is calling on them to accept the law, because if everyone acts as they see fit, the state would deteriorate. He shouted to journalists from a courthouse window that he was planning to attack Israeli cruise ships docking on Turkey's Meditterranean coast. Speaking Turkish with an Arabic accent, the man shouted, "I have no regrets. I was going to attack Israeli ships. If they come, my friends will attack them." Officials then pulled the man back and closed the window.

Sgt. Taysir Hayb sentenced to 8 years in the death of British national Tom Hurndall. Today, the IDF Southern district military court sentenced Sergeant Taysir Hayb to eight years in prison and an additional two years suspended sentence after being convicted of manslaughter following the death of British national Tom Hurndall. The soldier was found guilty of five additional counts, including two counts of obstruction of justice, and one count of submission of false information, solicitation to submit false information, and conduct unbecoming a soldier. On April 11, 2003, Hurndall, an activist of the International Solidarity Movement, was wounded by a shot fired by the soldier, Sergeant Taysir Hayb, along the Israeli-Egyptian border near Rafah. On June 27th, 2005 the military court found that the soldier fired a single shot, intentionally, at a point near Hurdall's head, in complete contravention of the rules of engagement. Hurndall was wounded as a result of the shot fired, and died of his wounds several months later, on January 13th 2004. The court found that the defendant fabricated a series of events in an attempt to cover up his actions and absolve himself of responsibility for the shooting and its consequences. Immediately after the incident he reported a made-up incident, concealed the truth during the field investigation conducted by the battalion and brigade commander, and tried to solicit another soldier to support his false rendition of events. The court found the soldier's action to be very severe, and in contravention of the values of the IDF, foremost among them the sanctity of life. The judges said in the sentencing: "We have taken many aspects into consideration, both in favor of the defendant and against him, but foremost among them is the sanctity of life and that is what will guide us with regard to the punishment. The court must send a clear message that, despite the period of murderous terror attacks in Israel, and although the soldiers (stationed along the border in the area of Rafah) may find themselves the most dangerous area of combat, serving with determination in a position that may endanger their lives, IDF soldiers must use their weapons and exert their potentially lethal force only when such an extent is required for the completion of their mission and never beyond that.  They must take every measure within their power to prevent any harm to human life, person or dignity.  The military prosecution will further study this sentencing and will consider filing an appeal in accordance. The IDF condemns the actions of the soldier, which are completely in contravention of IDF ethical values. The IDF express its sorrow over the death of Tom Hurndall, and extends its condolences to the family.

Joint Israeli, Palestinian operations center to monitor disengagement. Israel and the Palestinians are setting up a joint operation center to monitor Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. The operation center is to be located on the Israeli side of the Erez crossing into Gaza. It is expected to be open for four hours Thursday and Friday, but operate around-the-clock beginning Sunday. The room is to be equipped with communications equipment to monitor the Israeli settlements to be evacuated, as well as the positions of Palestinian security forces, who are being deployed to ensure calm. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon warned that if there is Palestinian fire, Israel would respond sharply. At the same time, according to officials on both sides, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas agreed to set up a committee that will monitor the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Hamas, however, turned down a demand by PA president Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) that it forego military-style victory celebrations during the pullout. Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri also said the organization reiterated its refusal to disarm.-IBA
